Hi! My name is Riley Demond, and I am an Environmental Science graduate from Oakland University with a specialization in Sustainability and Resource Management. I am passionate about sustainability, ecological restoration, water quality, and finding realistic environmental solutions that create long-term benefits for both ecosystems and communities.
During my time at Oakland University, I served as the Director of Sustainability for Oakland University Student Congress, where I led sustainability initiatives and worked to expand student involvement in environmental stewardship across campus. Through this role, I coordinated projects and events focused on waste reduction, ecological restoration, environmental education, and sustainable community engagement. Some of the projects I am most proud of include organizing the Sustainability Shark Tank competition, helping lead campus Repair Cafés to reduce waste through repair and reuse, supporting pollinator garden initiatives, and working on the Saving Bear Lake restoration project focused on improving habitat quality and shoreline naturalization through native vegetation.
My experiences both inside and outside the classroom have allowed me to gain hands-on experience in water quality monitoring, habitat assessments, biological surveying, GIS applications, aquatic macroinvertebrate identification, environmental outreach, and sustainability planning. Through my internship with the Clinton River Watershed Council, I conducted stream monitoring, habitat evaluations, and biological assessments while also helping educate students and community members about watershed health and environmental sustainability.
I enjoy work that combines science, sustainability, community engagement, and real-world environmental problem solving. Whether I am conducting fieldwork, coordinating sustainability projects, collaborating with faculty and community organizations, or helping organize environmental events, I value opportunities that create visible and meaningful environmental impact.
As I begin the next stage of my career, I am looking for opportunities where I can continue building my experience in environmental science, sustainability, restoration, and resource management while contributing to projects that genuinely improve environmental and community health. My goal is to continue growing as an environmental professional while helping organizations develop practical, science-based solutions that support long-term sustainability.
Thank you for visiting my website! I’m always excited to connect with people who are passionate about environmental science, sustainability, restoration, and innovative environmental solutions.
